Tom Atwood is a board member, President, and Interim VP, Product Engineering, helping the company through the transition from founder-as-CEO to professional management. Prior to PureSense, he has been CEO or Chairman of several software companies, both private and public. He was the founder and Chairman of Object Design, the market leader among the object DBMS companies of the mid '90s. Object Design IPO'd in
1997 and hit a $1B peak market value post IPO. It doubled in sales each year for six years in a row, making it the fastest growing private company in the US in 1994. He was a board member and then Chairman of Rogue Wave Software, taking it from $2.65/share to a sale for $6.50/share in less than one year. He was interim CEO for Cinebase, a Los Angeles DBMS company that he took from $800K to $8M in revenue within one year, and did the company's first VC round. He did a role up of US web development companies for the largest European web company, Icon Media Labs. Most recently he has been working on a new company building database management systems for Ruby on Rails, the combination of dynamic object programming language and lightweight application server that is emerging as the new lead platform for open source software.
